I worked as a Digital Storyteller for Humans of BUET from November 2015 to April 2017.
Humans of BUET started as a random project with Prottoy, one of my photographer friends from the campus during my undergrad. Since then, we have been able to reach more than 60,000 people on Facebook. And these all are organic. Storytelling has become a very important tool for change making in this age of social media. We have always believed that stories are powerful. They let people connect. We just cared more about connecting this campus than anyone else. This page has become the largest online platform of BUET. Humans of BUET is also one of the pioneers of shaping campus storytelling culture in Bangladesh. I have interviewed hundreds of students and teachers and tried making nice stories replicating the idea of Brandon Stanton. It was hard. I must say. To tell the story like the person feels it. To express the extract of the person's love, pain or happiness. Stories in this page are local but have that very global taste. For me, it has been an experience of lifetime. I would love to tell stories throughout my life.
We made impact through series of stories emphasising on gender equity, mental health, sexual harassment, religious solidarity and various important issues. We occasionally made videos to reflect hope and aspirations of the students in the campus. Humans of BUET is currently run by the current students, Prottoy and I left, but we still believe that every human is unique and every story is amazing.
